OJ was Innocent!
This story appears comical from the outside, but at the time it was terrifying. Humor is the only way my sister and I could survive.
Our house was always a comedic tragedy, as tragically funny at times as it was dark. Rose and I spent a good amount of time laughing at stories, such as how Beth Balcom would insist she knew Judith was evil from the time she was two, when she refused to share her McDonald’s chicken nuggets. One story, which was not at all funny at the time, resulted in a lot of laughter as adults. I’ll include it here because the site is heavy, and I imagine any reader that has made it this far might need some comedic relief, much as we did.
One thing Rose and I have discussed at length is that I’m pretty sure we can confidently say that we got screamed at by our “mother” about OJ Simpson more than any other children in the world. You know how they say you can never say things like that? I’m almost 100% sure we can. Seriously, if someone reads this and they think they were screamed at about OJ Simpson more than me with no familial relation, can you write me? Let’s talk about it and compare.
During the OJ Simpson trial, Beth Balcom spent her days watching every moment of it. Every night, each of us and our “father” would be screamed at for hours upon hours about how OJ was innocent and how the true murderer was Kato Kaelin (among other theories). This trial lasted eight months…. and I swear to you it was every night. The trial was a nationwide phenomenon so every one of Beth Balcom’s children wanted to vomit when it was brought up at school too. Rose texted me on 4/11/24, the day OJ died, to inform me. She also told me Beth Balcom politely disagreed with her friend in 2023 over OJ’s guilt. If we said that instead of her friend, pretty sure we would have lost our heads. Beth still believes the guy who wrote “If I Did It” is innocent.
OJ is innocent. Beth Balcom knows because she’s far smarter than you. I think that’s the reason, because both Gary and Beth are pretty racist. But if she can “be smarter than you” she’ll take that opportunity. Or they just like rich black people. Hard to understand delusional brains. I’m still trying to break it down. I included some messages with my siblings in Supporting Information referencing this time period.
She also expressed sympathy for murderers on a regular basis. If you consult Judith’s list in Supporting Information, you’ll find an entry “Says Andrea Yates is Misunderstood.” That was really uncomfortable. That case occurred in 2001, when I was still in high school and alone with them. She would scream it at random during arguments, I suppose to indicate how badly she wanted to murder me. Judith’s list also indicates Beth believed she could be the one to talk the “courthouse escapee,” another murderer, into surrendering. I remember this too. So, race aside, it could simply be she understands deeply what it feels like to really want to murder someone. These do not appear to be isolated opinions, but part of a broader pattern of identification and defense of violent criminals.
